It was only a few weeks ago that I sat down and wrote about the best bars and pubs in Durham. However, with the opening of popular bar Revolution in Durham, I think its time to update that post! It’s only just opened yet already I’d class it as THE place for food and drink in the city.
Last week I was invited to check out Revolution in Durham prior to the launch on Friday. I was able to sample quite a few drinks and cocktails as well as the food. Whilst this was all provided free of charge, my opinions in this article will be completely honest.
If you’ve been following my blog for a while now, you’ll know that I love quirky bars, microbreweries and practically anything with an industrial feel. Whilst it may be a chain, Revolution in Durham comes across as a very welcoming and cosy bar with bare brick walls and huge leather couches. Upstairs though is where the place really comes alive. There is a huge alfresco bar with a retracting roof for those warm summer nights along with quite possibly the best view of Durham’s castle. This is definitely my kind of place!
What I love most about this bar is that not only are the drinks good, the food is exceptional . With chain restaurants or bars, the food can sometimes be a little disappointing. Especially when the bar really just focuses on drink. With Revolution, not only are the drinks brilliant, the foods even better. I sampled a lot of the food and my highlights would definitely be the honey and mustard sausages (actually amazing) as well as the nachos! There’s nothing better than a few drinks in the afternoon followed by a table full of sharing plates! Well apart from burgers maybe. I plan to return to try the Smokeking Burger which is served under a dome of actual smoke! In comparison, once the night arrives, this will become the place to party especially as it’s open until 2am! No more having to suffer the same old nights at Wetherspoons or Players over in Walkergate.Although Revolution has opened on the quiet side of the river, there is no reason not to venture down! This is already the place to go in Durham and will remain popular once the Riverwalk is finished!
Whether you’re wanting to learn how to make cocktails (a classical hen party choice), have a quiet afternoon with some great food or have one drink too many and dance the night away, you won’t be disappointed!
ps there’s more photos below!
Thank you to Revolution for inviting me to sample the food and drink ahead of the launch last week.
