Looking for a hotel in Copenhagen with a prime location, that’s down right cool and a little bit cheeky? My review of the 25hours Hotel Copenhagen Indre By will show you why this is the best hotel in Copenhagen; probably.
Every year, around the time of my birthday in August, we try to plan a trip abroad and now, as a family of four, I really wanted to see if we could manage a city break. Newcastle Airport had very recently added direct flights to Copenhagen with Norwegian Airlines and so it made sense to test out the new route (flights around 1.5 hours) and finally visit the Danish capital.
With Elise only arriving in February 2025, we had still been relatively brave by heading to Cyprus for a week though that was more of a family friendly all-inclusive style holiday. This time however we were ready to try a proper city break and Copenhagen seemed like the perfect destination; easily walkable with a good mix of things to do with kids, cool coffee spots and plenty of photo opportunities.
I’ll be sharing a lot more about our trip but we’re here to talk about accommodation and quite possibly the best place to stay in Copenhagen; 25hours Hotel Copenhagen Indre By.
The 25hours brand of hotel originated in Hamburg, Germany, back in 2003 and now find themselves in 13 different locations (soon to be 14… Hello Sydney!) from Cologne to Dubai, Florence to Vienna and Jakarta to Paris. You should really check out the full list of locations as, if you’re planning a trip, this brand of hotels should be top of your list. Each hotel is completely unique, very stylish and you will be made to feel more than welcome no matter what.
I spent quite some time researching cool places to stay in Copenhagen and I kept coming back to the 25hours Hotel specifically in Indre By; the city centre. The design of this hotel really stood out to me (I mean, tiled floors, huge airy spaces and corkboard walls in the rooms) though I couldn’t see much as to how family friendly it would be. Nevertheless, I reached out and found the team extremely helpful and ultimately it ended up being one of the most family friendly hotels we have stayed at notwithstanding a few cheeky areas of the hotel that we had to steer toddler eyes away from (more on that later haha!).
Now, let’s move straight on and dive into my full review of the 25hours Hotel Copenhagen Indre By.

By way of disclosure, we stayed four nights at 25hours Hotel Copenhagen Indre By in return for a blog post and social media coverage. As always, all views are entirely my own.

LOCATION
As I alluded to above, there are two 25hours hotels in Copenhagen; one in Indre By and a brand new one on Paper Island. The Indre By location appealed to us the most as the hotel is literally slap bang in the centre of Copenhagen. Travelling with kids means that we need to keep things simple; routines at home might go out the window but so do plans, timings and any aspiration of getting out and about without any issues. In terms of location, we needed somewhere where you are in the thick of the action so that, even if you end up setting off for the day two hours late, it doesn’t matter as you don’t have to travel far. If you needed to pop back to the room for anything; a third style of cardigan, a bottle or for five minutes peace then it’s literally not a problem.
To give you a sense of just how well located this hotel is, I’ll give you some of our real life experiences. The Round House is mere seconds away from the front of the hotel as they both share the same square though the entrance is on the other side so probably a minute at best. We could walk to Kongens Have (The King’s Garden) in less than 5 minutes accounting for traffic lights and onwards to the Little Mermaid through the Nyboder district and around the back of Kastellet in 30 minutes. It was 15 minutes down to Nyhavn and 15 minutes across to Tivoli Gardens. You get the picture – even with a double stroller and carrying everything else that comes with family travel, there were no issues with getting around Copenhagen. I think we clocked up about 60,000 steps in the end so obviously we were shattered which meant that it was all the more important we had a decent hotel to recharge in.
THE HOTEL
The hotel itself is housed within a architecturally stunning building dating back to the 19th century. Previously a porcelain factory and part of the university, this hotel is completely unique and, probably as expected in a building this old, there are a lot of stairs. It wasn’t until the last couple of days that we realised there was a small lift before the reception area but heading to our room on the third floor required a careful carry of the double stroller! Who needs the gym?
Before you enter the hotel, you are welcomed by the slogan ‘we will never grow up’ something that channeled the inner Lost Boy in me. The large doormat as you walk in says ‘hello stranger’ and ‘goodbye friend’ as you leave and I can tell you that me and this hotel are now the best of friends.
First up was one of my favourite areas of the hotel; the Assembly Room, a large atrium with a central bar serving up cocktails, coffee and snacks. There are also flying dinosaurs, yep really, and an actual sex vending machine that we only spotted as we were checking out! Not quite family friendly but we kept Evelyn well away! The NENI Restaurant, where you head for breakfast and evening meals too, is a beautiful glasshouse with industrial lighting and you’ll also find a Vinyl Room and even a library where you can chill out with your favourite record or book.
The 25hours Hotel Copenhagen Indre By reminded me of a perfect blend of the Kimpton and the Hoxton brand of hotels; particularly the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester and the Hoxton Southwark in London.
If you have a little more time at the hotel or have finished up your exploring for the day, head to the sauna or the secret garden for the ultimate in relaxation.

ROOMS
There are 243 rooms in the hotel ranging from a Medium Single size all the way up to Gigantic which features separate sleeping and living areas, a bath and space for an extra bed too. We were in a Large room on the third floor overlooking the Round Tower and the square below. I’d read a few reviews about guests being disappointed with the size of the rooms but we were actually pleasantly surprised with a king-size bed big enough to fit two adults and our toddler and a travel cot to the side.
I loved the style of our room with its corkboard wall, nods to the buildings (slightly) industrial past with exposed metalwork and really cool tiles in the shower. There’s a free minibar (though you have to ask at reception for it to be refilled), bluetooth speaker and canvas bag (to take with you out and about) as well as all of the usual amenities you can expect from a hotel room. The hand drip coffee was a really nice touch featuring a specialty blend of coffee beans unique to the hotel. I’m not normally one for coffee without milk but this I could drink and absolutely loved it! As a parent, anything goes when you need that next caffeine hit.
One thing that was a little odd was the lighting situation, we could not (even by the time of check-out) work out which way to turn the light switches to control the lights. If you visit, you’ll know what I mean. It was a game of complete guesswork and hoping that the lights would switch out so you could eventually get some sleep!

OVERALL THOUGHTS
I absolutely couldn’t be happier with our stay at the 25hours Hotel in Copenhagen. I didn’t necessarily think it would be too child-friendly beforehand but it worked out really well showing you can definitely combine high-end boutique hotel stays with the challenges of parenting young children. One thing that really did help, and this was something that was provided on a gifted basis, was hiring puzzles and other toys from Easygoing Holidays; it really saved us from resorting to screen-time or Evelyn getting bored of the few toys we had packed! The scooter and double stroller we also hired also made life so much easier!
We should probably address the variety of reviews that you may read on Google of this hotel; I couldn’t believe just how many 1 star reviews were being left. Our experience was completely unlike anything you would read in those reviews; every member of staff went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was perfect, yes there are stairs but there are also lifts and there were absolutely no issues at all. Even after a power cut affecting our room, the staff worked quickly to get it all sorted. You have to remember this is a unique and quirky building; if you want something bland and boring, there are many non-descript hotels that bring their identikit setups across the world. There’s a time and place for them of course but you’re in central Copenhagen and this is absolutely where you need to be staying.
In terms of other aspects of our stay we really enjoyed; breakfast was relatively limited but had everything you could ask for and of high-quality (I ate a lot of sourdough, beetroot hummus and fresh meats and cheeses!) and the coffee was very good. There’s a well-thought out area with typewriters and the ability to write yourself or another a letter which the hotel would post out to you; we tried this, thinking it would create a special travel memory but each of the typewriters were out of ink so it was more an aesthetically pleasing corner of the hotel instead.
We will definitely stay at this hotel again when we head back to Copenhagen as next time we perhaps won’t need to fill our days with as much sight-seeing as we did as first-time visitors and so we’ll be able to enjoy more of the hotel itself. Flat White’s in the Assembly Room, stick on a record and chill out, head to the sauna and perhaps enjoy a meal and a few cocktails too; all without the children maybe!
Overall then, if you’re looking for the best place to stay in Copenhagen then you should absolutely put the 25hours Hotel Copenhagen Indre By straight to the top of your list. Hopefully this post gives you enough inspiration and information to help make your mind up but, if you need anything else, just let me know in the comments below!
