Almost nine years later, I revisit the quote that started it all having achieved the first step of my dream to be a full-time travel blogger and photographer.
Life Moves Pretty Fast, If You Don’t Stop And Look Around Once In A While You Could Miss It.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
It’s hard to believe that I’m writing a third post in what has become a little series dealing with important life updates. The quote above has featured on my homepage for almost nine years and essentially has become my life motto to create something better for myself and now for my family.
On the 30th August 2017, I published my first post here detailing how Ferris Bueller’s most famous quote helped push my towards making, at the time at least, the most life-changing decision I’d ever made. I had four weeks left to work as a medical negligence solicitor and four weeks before Emma and I set off to explore the other side of the world.
I was clear at that point that I wanted to travel the world, take photos, write about it and earn a living from it. I thought it would take months and we’d be able to travel indefinitely but the reality is it took much, much longer than that.
We returned to England in 2018, I started work as a child protection solicitor and, for the next eight years, life just happened. We got married, we bought our house and we started a family. Somehow, alongside it all, the passion for photography and writing remained and I continued to work on this blog albeit at a slow pace. However, as I write this in April 2026, I can officially say that I am doing this full-time.
That’s right, finally, I am doing this full-time.
I’ve been pushing really hard over the last 3 years and I’m so proud to say that it’s paid off in the sense that I’ve been able to make that leap – from full-time solicitor earning a salary to working for myself.
I am under no illusions that this is going to easy. It’s not. I’m probably going to be working harder than I’ve ever worked but my productivity will directly impact my livelihood and I’m looking forward to that. I can finally focus entirely on photography and on writing and on continuing to build my little space in the travel and photography communities.
It’s not all about me though as clearly a decision like this impacts my family. It’s not as though we can just up and leave and become a digital nomad family (not just yet anyway). This move is hopefully going to create that little bit of freedom to ensure that I do not miss my children growing up and going on all of the adventures with them.

So, almost nine years later, I’ve achieved step 1 of my dream. It’s time to knuckle down and see what I can do with all of my energy directed right here.
Let’s do this.
