7th May to 13th May
Bundaberg
As I said in my last post, I’m afraid I don’t have much for you this week. Our new job continued with delivering more yellow pages until Wednesday when we were told there was no more work. Well there was some work but it meant a return drive of 5 hours each day and no-one was going to do that!Unfortunately, on Wednesday morning, we’d paid upfront for another seven days at the caravan park in Bundaberg. It wouldn’t have been so much of an issue if we had a pitch that wasn’t squashed between two permanent sites. We decided to use the rest of the week to get the van serviced, visit the Bundaberg Rum Distillery and watch a lot of Netflix. Some good news for once was that the van passed its service with no issues and a cheap bill of just $217. I was telling Emma that I’d be happy if it was less than $800!Bundaberg isn’t somewhere that travellers visit unless it’s for work but its slap bang in the middle of sugar cane country. A day trip to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery is therefore a must. I had heard of Bundaberg back in England as the ginger beer is often on the shelves of Tesco. I hadn’t however heard of the same company’s rum.For $30 each you get to explore the museum, tour the working distillery and sample two of the rums; one of which is the current world’s best dark rum. After chatting to the guy, it turned out I would be needed for Mother’s Day as a dishwasher. At $28 an hour, I was more than happy to give it a go.Sunday came, and I’ve never known a job so relentless and never-ending. The restaurant was sold out from breakfast through dinner. I was washing pots like it was going out of fashion with a ten-minute break in six and a half hours. I don’t think I’ll be going back to England to work in a kitchen anytime soon.Well there you have it, a bit of a nothing week for us. Our eyes now firmly set on moving swiftly up the coast. In terms of road-tripping, things are going to get serious from here on in!
I would love to go on a road trip like this one day! Sounds like you’re having the time of your life 😊
It really is an incredible opportunity! Having such a good time 🙂
