From Above: Australia Aerial Photography

Now that my time in Australia is over, I’ve been looking through the thousands of photos I’ve taken.  I just had to invest in a drone whilst in Australia and believe that it offers such a different perspective for landscape photographers.  I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to develop my skills with drone photography over ten months through Australia and South East Asia. It was here though, across Australia, that the drone really came into its own. If you wanted to check out some inspiring Australia aerial photography, to see Australia from above, you’ve come to the right place.

So, without further ado, here’s my collection of drone photos covering 15,000 miles of Australia; from Melbourne to Perth and (almost) everywhere in between.  We’ve got sporting stadiums in Melbourne and Perth, abandoned gold mines in Peak Hill, tropical waterfalls in Cairns, rock pools in Sydney, The Breadknife in the Warrumbungle National Park and many other fascinating landscapes from above. So many of these photos have made it towards the top of my favourite ever photos so much so that some have even been printed and adorn the walls of my home.

There’s something magical about this country which can only really be appreciated from the air.  I could probably spend years and years capturing Australia from the skies and each picture would be unique.  The landscape is so diverse and I hope I’ve been able to capture this. Hopefully you love my Australia aerial photography as much as I do!

Well, what do you think? Australia is just absolutely stunning from the sky isn’t it?

I’ve put together some tips on drone photography generally here but these photos were all taken with the Mavic Pro 2 drone across ten months in 2017 and 2018. I’d love to return soon, perhaps with a newer drone, to capture more of Australia from above and improve on my Australia aerial photography. I don’t have many regrets but I certainly regret not using my drone much more often – I honestly think I could have and should have taken hundreds more photos.

I ended up selling my drone when I returned to the UK after these travels back in 2018 though the allure of aerial photography (and perhaps trying out more videography) has always drawn me back in. With the ever increasing quality of drones on the market, specifically those made by DJI, perhaps soon I’ll dive back into the world drone photography.
