A Collection of Hands Holding Cigarettes

This is a photographic collection of hands holding cigarettes from across the globe.

Like many other photographers, I have thousands and thousands of photographs taken over the last few years especially since I fell in love with the Fujifilm X-T2 and now my Fujifilm X-T5. I have photographs from quiet days in the house during Covid-19, from family trips away and from road trips across Australia.

Over the years I’ve developed my own style of travel and street photography and often focus on underlying themes no matter where I find myself. This post therefore focuses on one of those themes of photographs that I’ve collected over the past couple of years. It may sound strange but much in a similar vein to those that collect records (I do this too), trading cards or comic books, I have found myself ‘collecting’ similar photographs that have the same underlying theme.

Now, I’m not here trying to romanticise smoking at all. I don’t smoke and neither do any of my family but I’ve found this collection, simply of hands holding cigarettes, one of my favourite series of photographs. Especially when I look forward, I’m keen to get out there to add to my, very small, collection.

Like my ‘The Monochrome Cities‘ and ‘On The Streets‘ series, I’ll start to create more posts covering ‘Collections’ – I have a few ideas already so watch this space! Over time, each of the posts will be updated as and when I manage to take a photograph worthy of being included. Don’t expect any shinies though…
