Palermo is a street and travel photographer’s dream; a city where grittiness thrives and ordinary daily live bursts all around. This is my visual guide to street photography in Palermo, Sicily.
Ah Palermo! The infamous capital city of Sicily, the heart of the Mediterranean. Palermo has a lot going for it that’s for sure and it’s almost immediately entered my top 3 cities in the world. The city is entirely honest, it’s raw and it’s down right gritty. Life meanders on as though the ever increasing influx of tourists are not there. From frantic early mornings at Ballaro Market to religious celebrations in the street, you’ll get a glimpse of almost everything life can throw at you in just a short space of time.

THE BEST BARS IN PALERMO
I visited Palermo as part of a press trip with Visit Sicily and spent a total of five nights in the city; three on the press trip and two solo. At every opportunity, my trusty Fujifilm X-T5 was in hand to capture the city in my own unique style of photography. I loved wandering the streets, with no real purpose or direction, other than to explore and photograph everything along the way.
This post is part of my ‘On The Streets’ series which sees me share my photographs from various places across the world with little emphasis on the words but more so on the images themselves. The series is still very much a work in progress and I’ll keep on adding new posts as and when I get chance. Here are a few that you can check out in the meantime including new ones from Sicily:
Newcastle
Bangkok
Faro
Mazara del Vallo, Sicily
Trapani, Sicily
So, let’s dive straight in and look at some of my street photography in Palermo.
STREET PHOTOGRAPHY IN PALERMO
THE DETAILS
All of the photographs below were captured on the Fujifilm X-T5 with my Classic Neg recipe; so yes they’re all pretty much straight out of camera with little post-processing. In terms of lenses, obviously the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 was almost glued to my camera at all times though I did enjoy taking the (new to me) Fujifilm 18-55mm f/2.8-4 lens for its first outing. There will be one or two images shot with the Fujifilm 23mm f/1.4 too but primarily the first two lenses mentioned above.
