On The Streets: Trapani, Sicily

Trapani, a city on the west coast of Sicily, is closer to Africa than mainland Italy. The old part of the city, filled with beautiful Baroque buildings, is great for photography. This is my visual guide to street photography in Trapani.

Trapani is a city on the west coast of Sicily, a little off the beaten track for a large number of visitors, but immediately has a sense of calm compared to Palermo. Trapani has long days of sunshine with stunning views of the sun slipping below the Mediterranean sea each and every night. The Baroque buildings with their pastel hues make for great photo opportunities as does just a simply walk along the main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele, or the promenande, Via Mura di Tramontana Ovest.

Trapani is a busy fishing port and is a great place to base yourself to explore the wider region including the medieval mountain town of Erice, the famous salt pans, the Marsala vineyards and Mazara del Vallo.

I visited Trapani as part of a press trip with Visit Sicily and only managed to stay one night though that still allowed for a very hot and long solo wander around the old town and an opportunity the following morning to cycle through the city to the salt pans and on to Marsala. If you’re looking for more on the best things to do in Trapani then you’re in luck as I’ve pulled together a guide right here.

This post is part of my ‘On The Streets’ series which sees me share my photographs from various places across the world with little emphasis on the words but more so on the images themselves. The series is still very much a work in progress and I’ll keep on adding new posts as and when I get chance. Here are a few that you can check out in the meantime:

Now that we’ve become acquainted with the city, let’s have a look at my street photography in Trapani.

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY IN TRAPANI

THE DETAILS

All of the photographs below were captured on the Fujifilm X-T5 with my Classic Neg recipe; so yes they’re all pretty much straight out of camera with little post-processing. In terms of lenses, obviously the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 was almost glued to my camera at all times though I did enjoy taking the (new to me) Fujifilm 18-55mm f/2.8-4 lens for its first outing. There will be one or two images shot with the Fujifilm 23mm f/1.4 too but primarily the first two lenses mentioned above.
