On The Streets: London

It’s time to head to the big city, London, and finally capture its world-famous streets for myself. This is my visual guide to street photography in London with my trusted Fujifilm cameras.

Ah, London. It’s taken a while hasn’t it but I’m finally getting round to sharing more of my photography from this captivating city. I’ve been obsessed with London since a young kid and, for a long time, dreamed of qualifying as a lawyer working in the city.

In a way, I’m very glad that I never pursued (well, even attempted to pursue) a career in law down in London; I’m just not sure I could have dealt with its non-stop way of life. Oh and it probably had something to do with its extortionate cost of living; hello less than £600 a month mortgage for a 4 bedroom detached home in the North. That doesn’t however mean that I don’t fall in love with the city each and every time I visit whether it has been for work in the past or for weekend breaks now.

I love how each visit to London can be completely different with trips to new boroughs on the cards and new coffee shops, bars and places to eat to try. Whether you’re heading to London for your first visit and looking to tick off all of the tourist hotspots or a frequent visitor wanting to just hang out, London accepts us all.

Anyway, let’s get on to photography shall we? I know that’s what you all came here for. I’ve covered London before in my short but sweet ‘The Monochrome Cities’ series but this time we’re bringing a little colour back.

My ‘On The Streets’ series takes us across the world with short posts focusing solely on my unique style of travel and street photography. The series will never be complete but here’s a look at where I’ve covered so far:

Ok, now it’s time for a virtual photo walk. This is my take on street photography in London.

    THE DETAILS

The last time I visited London was back in 2022 when Evelyn was just six months old. We’ve been meaning to go back for a while but 2023 was all about trips abroad so perhaps this year we’ll make it. Most of these photos were taken on random walks around the city with the family so I’d love to go back with the sole purpose of taking photos.

This means that I didn’t have the Fujifilm X-T5 so all of the photos you’ll see here were produced with the Fujifilm X-T2 and the Fujifilm X100F. The X100F covers off the 23mm (35mm) focal length but I also used a variety of lenses with the X-T2; mainly the Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 and the Fujifilm 50mm f/2 though very few with the Fujifilm 16mm f/1.4 and the Samyang 12mm f/2.

In terms of the Fujifilm film simulations, the black and white images are my Acros Punch JPEG recipe and the colours are RAW files edited with my Chrome Urban preset.
