On The Streets: Chiang Mai, Thailand

I love the city of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand; from the calm of Buddhist temples to the chaos of food markets. This is my visual guide to street photography in Chiang Mai!

As with my Bangkok post, I’m not quite sure why it’s taken me so long to create this post given that I visited Chiang Mai, in Northern Thailand, back in 2018! However, despite the time that has passed, I love these photos as much now as I did back then though I just wish I had taken more.

Chiang Mai is quite a large city close to Thailand’s border with Myanmar nestled at the foot of Thailand’s highest mountain, Doi Inthanon. The city is as calming as it is charming with a very laidback atmosphere full of coffee shops and cafes, Buddhist temples and street food markets. It’s a place I can certainly see myself heading back to in the future.

Street photography in Chiang Mai is always a good idea as the streets are a nice mix of gritty, as always in South East Asia, and peaceful. There’s always something to capture whether it be the walking street market on a Sunday or locals going about their daily life.

My ‘On The Streets’ series takes us across the world with short posts focusing solely on my unique style of travel and street photography. The series will never be complete but here’s a look at where I’ve covered so far:

Ok, now it’s time for a virtual wander. This is my take on street photography in Chiang Mai.

    THE DETAILS

These photos were taken a little while ago on the Fujifilm X-T2 primarily with the Fujifilm 23mm f/2 lens but also with the Fujifilm 10-24mm f/4 and Fujifilm 55-200mm f/3.5-4.8. As I do now, I also shot JPEGs back when these photos were taken so all of these colours can be achieved within your Fujifilm camera with my ‘Urban Chrome‘ recipe.
