On The Streets: Marmaris, Türkiye

Beyond the golden beaches and stunning coastlines, there was so much more to Marmaris than I originally thought. This is my visual guide to travel photography in Marmaris.

Ordinarily you wouldn’t think that a resort town in the Mediterranean would throw up enough opportunities for a street and travel photographer like me but I was pleasantly surprised in Marmaris, Türkiye. Obviously, there was plenty of travel style shots that just came naturally, especially when exploring the best things to do in Marmaris, but it was when I slowly wandered the quiet streets during the morning or explored traditional hillside villages that I was able to find some more unique moments to capture. I found that the Turkish locals were more than happy to be included within images including more portraits which were captured often after a smile and gesture with my camera.

My ‘On The Streets’ series takes us across the world with short posts focusing solely on my unique style of travel and street photography. The series will never be complete but here’s a look at where I’ve covered so far:

Ok, now it’s time for a virtual wander around not only the streets of Marmaris but also the wider region of Muğla and its pine-tree covered hills as well as the turquoise waters of both the Aegean and Mediterranean Sea. I hope you like what you see; more than ever I’m trying to elevate my travel photography so that I truly capture what it feels like to visit a place – not just documenting the simple shots of beaches and coastlines.

    TRAVEL PHOTOGRAPHY IN MARMARIS

    THE DETAILS

My four night trip to Marmaris was my first ‘work’ trip if you like with my brand new Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 and so, taking what I learnt from our family trip to Belgium a month earlier, I wanted to travel light, make the most of this incredible zoom lens but also add something a little longer. I honestly think, for a trip like this with beaches, an old town, incredible food and drink and boat trips, my lightweight and simple kit of just my Fujifilm X-T5, Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 and Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 was perfect. Long-time readers will know what it means to have left my most-used and beloved Fujifilm 35mm f/1.4 at home. Doesn’t that just go to show just how good the Sigma is?

In terms of bags, all of the above fit comfortably within my Bellroy 6l sling though somedays I didn’t take out the 56mm f/1.2 lens as I needed my Osmo Pocket 3 instead.

All of the images you’ll see in this post are Fujifilm JPEGs captured with my ‘Summer Negative‘ recipe with some slight finishing touches applied to really make the images come to life.
