Welcome to Santa Cruz de La Palma, the capital of La Palma, the most underrated island in the whole of the Canaries.
The visit to La Palma was actually a work trip with Jet2holidays (you can read my guide to the best things to do in La Palma here) so we couldn’t just wander off, make our own plans and spend as long as we might have wanted in places.
The capital, Santa Cruz de La Palma, initially wasn’t on the itinerary at all so you can imagine my excitement when we had time one afternoon to visit. Initially it was only a short wander down the main street, taking around half an hour or so, but I managed to stay behind with a plan to maybe spend an extra hour by myself getting lost and seeing what I could capture before getting a taxi back to the hotel in time for the evening meal.
As soon as we stepped foot into Santa Cruz de La Palma, I was immediately in my element and all I wanted to do was shoot and, thankfully, it seemed that everywhere I looked there was something interesting to take a photo of; whether that was a bit of nice light, a beautiful pastel coloured building, locals wandering by or just the street itself with the huge imposing mountains behind.

THE DETAILS
As with my recent trip to Marmaris in Türkiye, I kept things relatively simple for this trip to La Palma though with the addition of just one lens. I mainly had my Fujifilm X-T5 as usual with the Sigma 17-40mm f/1.8 and Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 – very straightforward. The additional lens was the Fujifilm 50-140mm f/2.8 as I anticipated some landscapes might have needed that extra reach – truth is, I didn’t use it that much.
I did take the Fujifilm XF-10 too for some snapshots which was interesting. It’s a camera I’ve been using for a good few months every now and again and I’ll have to share my thoughts soon. I’ll make sure I include some of the shots from this camera – see if you can spot the difference. Finally, there was an outing for my brand new DJI Mini 5 Pro. I didn’t think I’d ever get a drone again after selling my DJI Mavic Pro 2 which came round Australia with me but, here we are, and hopefully I’ll get used to it over the coming months. If I’m honest, I still detest editing the image files…
With the exception of the images from the Fujifilm XF-10, all other images were captured with my ‘Summer Negative‘ recipe with a few finishing touches applied in Lightroom.
